Recent research on the Neandertals has considered whether this archaic group intermixed with modern humans during the late Pleistocene or suffered extinction, perhaps because of changing climate and/or the migration of modern humans. Typically, western Europe is identified as the location of this event. Dr. Glantz will discuss how evidence from southern Siberia and Central Asia can be applied to the question of what happened to the Neandertals.
