Languages and Literatures of Europe and the Americas
Position beginning August 1, 2013 (position #82115).
Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in Greek and Latin language and literature (5 courses per year); teach Classics courses in English translation (e.g., Introduction to Greek literature, Introduction to Roman literature, Greek and Roman Mythology). Engage in research and publication related to Classics, serve on department/university committees, help develop an interdisciplinary Classical Studies program, and participate in other professional activities, as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Classics or a closely related field; must be in hand by August 1,2013. Excellent knowledge of Greek, Latin and English, and outstanding communication skills required. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college/university level, and evidence of an active research agenda.
Desirable Qualifications: Any suitable combination of the following: Ability to work with other university departments to promote teaching and research in Classics and inter- and intra-university initiatives in Classics. Ability to teach courses in a field related to Classics (e.g., Greek and Roman art, Greek, Roman or Egyptian archaeology, Egyptian hieroglyphics, biblical Greek, biblical Hebrew, Near Eastern Studies).
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
