The Center for American Archeology, Kampsville, IL, a 401(c)3 organization whose mission is research, education and public outreach, and cultural stewardship, seeks applications for the Director of Education position. Position begins February 1, 2013.
Successful applicants will hold at minimum an M.A./M.S. degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field; have prior experience in archeological field and laboratory work, and in teaching and/or public outreach. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work with staff and students of all ages in an intensive living/learning environment; from spring through fall, the majority of work time is spent outdoors. Business skills including client relations, budget management, social media and web skills, desktop publishing, and information technology experience are a plus. Self-motivated, outgoing, energetic, and efficient people would do well in this position.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: engaging in strategic planning exercises, program development, managing all aspects of the CAA Education Program (ex. planning, logistics, PR, client relations, recruiting, teaching, managing interns, supervising support staff for the Past Lifeways Program and Summer Field Schools), managing CAA Visitors Center and Museum (planning, logistics, staffing, merchandise), assisting with special events (e.g. Archeology Day), seeking out and writing grant proposals, developing productive partnerships with other research and education organizations, creating positive community collaborations, working with departmental heads to further the mission of the CAA, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Salary level is commensurate with experience; benefits include paid vacation and holidays; health insurance plan is available. Scenic Calhoun County is located in rural west-central Illinois, approximately 80 miles northwest of St. Louis, Missouri. Kampsville is a quiet community of less than 400 people.
