Göttingen, Institute for Egyptology and Coptic Studies, is seeking
applications for the non-tenure track position of
Assistant Professor in Egyptology
(Professorial Salary Scale W1)
with a starting date of April 1, 2012 or later. The initial contract is for
three years. After a successful performance review an extension of the
contract for a second three-year-term is available.
The successful candidate will have a broad teaching and research competence
in Egyptology. Professional duties include the planning, development and
implementation of research projects and participation in cooperative
research ventures. Candidates' research profile will ideally show a strong
interdisciplinary interest and an interest in cultural history.
Responsibilities also include teaching classes in Egyptian language, history
and material culture in the B.A./M.A. programme in Egyptology (currently 4
hrs per semester), supervising B.A. and M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations
in the field and contributing to teaching and curriculum development.

Required qualifications: A completed Ph.D. with above-average results and
further research experience are required. A strong commitment to excellence
in teaching needs to be demonstrated through teaching experience or
documented pedagogical ability.
Preferred qualifications: Prior participation in interdisciplinary research
projects and experience in academic or research management would be
considered an advantage, as would experience or interest in E-learning
technologies and the ability to teach in English. German citizenship is not
a prerequisite for employment, and non-German scholars are expressly
invited to apply.
