Archaeological Groups of Southwest Texas Join Together for Workshop

AIA-Southwest Texas Archaeological Society (SWTAS) joined the National Park Service, UTSA's Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), and the Texas Archaeological Society (TAS) in celebrating National Archaeology Day at historical Mission Concepcion, San Antonio Missions. While the other organizations provided experts to identify and explain artifacts the public brought, the SWTAS provided information about the AIA and its Site Preservation Program. Society volunteers explained the program, its grants, the AIA policies on collecting, looting, and museums, and the AIA troop lecture program. The public was also given AIA membership brochures, site preservation flyers, "Archaeology" magazines, and cultural heritage playing cards. Over 1,000 visitors came were present at the event!
As preparations for International Archaeology Day pick up speed, more groups sign on daily. Today, four new groups joined the cause.
The Society for California Archaeology has signed on as a collaborating organization for International Archaeology Day.
2013's International Archaeology Day sees the return of many collaborating organizations from years past!
