“Archaeologist for a Day” in Providence, RI
November 13, 2012
On October 20th 2012, the Narragansett Chapter of the AIA celebrated National Archaeology Day with the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World and the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. Chapter members, Providence residents, and family members visiting for Brown Parents' Weekend got together on the Quiet Lawn of the Brown University campus. The fun quizzes compelled visitors to participate in the JIAAW tour, the Community Dig on the lawn, and the Haffenreffer’s mock dig for families (which complemented the live excavation on the lawn). Participants won trowels, Archaeology magazines, and more! It was a beautiful day to be outside and learn more about archaeology.
Volunteers are needed to monitor the translations of the International Archaeology Day webpage.
After two years of great success, National Archaeology Day will change to International Archaeology Day for 2013.
The Friends of the Office of State Archaeology in Connecticut acted as a participating partner in National Archaeology Day by sponsoring an Archaeology Fair.
