Begin your journey with two nights in Morocco’s storied Marrakesh, a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the opportunity to visit the archaeological site of Aghmat, once a major axis for trans-Saharan trade, where Professor Messier has been working since 2005. Visit Casablanca’s Hassan II mosque, which will stamp itself as indelibly on your memory as it does on the landscape; then embark Harmony V and cruise to Rabat, the country’s capital and a World Heritage site, boasting glorious architecture; and Tangier, to learn about the historic cultural and diplomatic relations between Morocco and the U.S.

Follow in the wake of the intrepid, 8th-century Moors as you cruise from northern Africa to Cadiz, on Spain’s southern coast. In Seville, visit two World Heritage sites: the Cathedral (burial place of Christopher Columbus) and its renowned Giralda minaret; and the 10th-century Alcazar, with its palatial buildings and impressive gardens. Continue to the iconic rock of Gibraltar; Ronda, a picturesque town overlooking a steep canyon; and Granada, home to the Generalife Gardens and the magnificent Alhambra—crown jewel of Moorish architecture—our program’s fifth and final World Heritage site.
