Hugh Elton

Archaeological Institute of America lecturer and host Hugh Elton will lecture on and discuss the fascinating history of the places we visit, from ancient times to the end of the Byzantine Empire. Hugh is Acting Dean of Humanities and Associate Professor of Ancient History and Classics at Trent University, Ontario. Previously, he served for five years (2001-06) as Director of the British Institute at Ankara, Turkey, and taught at several universities in the U.S. Professor Elton received his Ph.D. from Oxford and has conducted extensive archaeological fieldwork, most recently as Director of the Avkat Archaeological Project and the Göksu Archaeological Project, both in Turkey. His current research interests cover Roman and late Roman political military history and the regions of Cilicia and Isauria in southern Turkey.
