Dr. George Bey, one of the winners of the 2013 AIA Best Practices in Site Preservation Award, and two of his colleagues were recently featured in an interivew with National Geographic, discussing their conservation work at Millsaps College’s Kaxil Kiuic Biocultural Reserve in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The reserve is an innovative project that combines research, education, and conservation initiatives to protect the natural environments and ancient settlements of the Yucatan.
George Bey is one of the directors of the archaeological research being conducted at Kiuic. The AIA was pleased to honor his excellent work in conservation and site preservation by awarding him a Best Practices in Site Preservation Award at the AIA Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA earlier this month.
