2024 AIA Awards Ceremony to Take Place at the 125th Annual Meeting


The AIA will hold its 2024 Awards Ceremony, on the evening of Saturday, January 6, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, at the Hilton Chicago. The ceremony will take place during the Institute’s 125th Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. All meeting attendees are invited to join us as we recognize the recipients of the following awards:

Anna Marguerite McCann Award for Fieldwork Reports – Susan Katzev and Helena Swiny

Outstanding Public Service Award – Kaplan, Kirsch, Rockwell

Award for Outstanding Work in Digital Archaeology –  A Cemetery and Quarry from Imperial Gabii (Laura M. Banducci and Anna Gallone)

Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award – Sinclair Bell

Felicia A. Holton Book Award –Under Jerusalem: The Buried History of the World’s Most Contested City (Andrew Lawler)

Holton Book Award Honorable Mention: Buried Beneath the City: An Archaeological History of New York (Nan Rothschild, Amanda Sutphin, H. Arthur Bankoff, and Jessica Striebel MacLean

James R. Wiseman Book Award – Wall Paintings and Social Context: The Northeast Bastion at Ayia Irini (Lyvia Morgan)

Graduate Student Paper Award (2023 Annual Meeting – First Prize) – Emily C. Mohr

Graduate Student Paper Award (2023 Annual Meeting – Honorable Mention) – Brigitte Keslinke

Martha and Artemis Joukowsky Distinguished Service Award – Andrew Goldman and Charlie Steinmetz

Pomerance Award for Scientific Contributions to Archaeology – Deborah M. Pearsall

The AIA «Telestes» Award for Material Culture Research in Ancient Music and Dance: Thaisa Martins Coelho and Hasan Baran Fırat

Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement – Professor John McK. Camp II
