2024 IAD Grant Recipients Announced

We’re pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s International Archaeology Day Grants! These grants help AIA Local Societies host events associated with International Archaeology Day 2024, celebrated on Saturday, October 19 this year, along with events throughout the month of October.

The 2024 winners are:

The Spokane Society

• The Spokane Society hosted Spokane Archaeology Day on October 5

The Kentucky Society

• The Kentucky Society hosted a lecture – “Climate Change, Human Health, and Building an Equitable Sustainable Future” with Dr. Gwen Robbins Schug on October 10

The Richmond Society

• The Richmond Society held a lecture – “The Discovery of and Excavations at Eyreville. A 17th century Plantation Site on Virginia’s Eastern Shore” with Michael Clem on October 10

The Tampa Bay Society

• The Tampa Bay Society hosted their annual International Archaeology Day Graduate Symposium on October 12

The Milwaukee Society

• As part of the Midwest Archaeology Conference in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Society ran a student workshop, “Classroom to Career: Strategies for Aspiring Archaeologists” on October 18

The Finger Lakes (Ithaca) Society    

• The Finger Lakes (Ithaca) Society hosted an open house at the St. James AME Zion Church Excavations in Ithaca, NY on October 19

The Nashville Society

The Nashville Society teamed up with the Nashville Parthenon to host International Archaeology Day at the Parthenon on October 19

The Princeton Society             

• The Princeton Society held its “Color the Past” event at the Princeton Public Library on October 19

The Rochester Society           

• The Rochester Society hosted International Archaeology Day at the RMSC on October 19

The Atlanta Society   

• The Atlanta Society joined with the Michal C. Carlos Museum at Emory University to host their DigIT! Archaeology Day celebration on October 19, 2024

The Central Texas (Austin) Society

• The Central Texas Society continued with their 16th Annual Central Texas Society Archaeology Playdate on October 20

The East Tennessee (Knoxville) Society       

• The East Tennessee Society hosted their “Can You Dig It?” event on October 20

The Gainesville Society

• The Gainesville Society is set to celebrate International Archaeology Day at the University of Florida campus on October 23

The Narragansett (Providence) Society       

• The Narragansett Society will celebrate IAD with a Community Archaeology Day in Providence, RI on October 26

The Niagara Peninsula Society

• The Niagara Peninsula Society will celebrate International Archaeology Day at the Salem Chapel with guided tours of the chapel on October 26

The Western Massachusetts Society

• The Western Massachusetts Society will hold their International Archaeology Day Fair on October 26

The Washington, DC Society

• The Washington, DC Society plan to host a lecture “When Informants Become Knowledge Producers: Rethinking Great Zimbabwe” with Prof. Shadreck Chirikure on October 30

The Central Missouri (Columbia) Society   

• The Central Missouri (Columbia) Society will run an Archaeology Day Fair as part of the I International Archaeology Day at Mizzou on November 10
