The Archaeologists for Autism mission is to unlock the potential of children and young adults with autism and autism related disorders. We aim to provide a chance to experience archaeology in a fun, low stress environment and on their terms.
We are a non-profit 501(c) (3) association consisting of all volunteers and no one receives a salary or other compensation. We depend entirely on donations from the public and all funds go directly to running AFA.
We have partnered with various autism agencies and organizations as well as the archaeology and paleontology communities to run these events each year.
Has the person in your family on the spectrum ever wanted to excavate actual artifacts (some 8,000 years old)? Excavate fossils? Touch and hold actual artifacts? Learn how prehistoric peoples lived? Do they like prehistoric animals? What about playing with clay to make pots? We have all these activities and more!
The AIA is North America's largest and oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to archaeology. The Institute advances awareness, education, fieldwork, preservation, publication, and research of archaeological sites and cultural heritage throughout the world. Your contribution makes a difference.
