AIA Lecturer/Host: Yaşar Ersoy


Yaşar Ersoy is a Professor of Classical Archaeology. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr College in 1993. Professor Ersoy specializes in the art and archaeology of Ionia through the Iron Age and Archaic Period, and the Aegean Bronze Age. He is the director of the Clazomenae excavations in Türkiye, where he has been doing fieldwork since 1980, and he currently works in the Early Iron Age residential quarters at the site. Professor Ersoy is the recipient of a post-graduate fellowship granted by the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation in 2003. In 2004, having been awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he pursued his research in Berlin. In 2005/2006, he was selected as the Samuel Kress Lecturer in Ancient Art for the Archaeological Institute of America and gave talks at various local AIA societies in the U.S. and Canada. Currently, he is offering courses in archaeology at the School of Applied Sciences at Yaşar University in İzmir, Türkiye
