What clues to the past lie just beneath your feet, waiting to be discovered? How can archaeology give voice to the enslaved people of Oakley who have historically been silenced? And why are archaeologists so crazy about pottery anyway?!
Join us for a day dedicated to the archaeology of Oakley Plantation. An experienced archaeologist will guide you through a recreated dig carefully modeled after the actual slave cabin excavations. Learn the significance of the site and the methods used for excavating, and afterwards, you will be able to sift the dirt, map the site, and discover the forgotten lives of Oakley for yourself.
