Project Description:

This Project was initiated in 2018 with the aim of contributing to the studies of Greek Archaeology of the Hellenistic period in the area of Gela (Sicily). After five years of Archaeological Investigations on-site, we have managed to delineate a cult area and a residential area.

This project was initially developed by three universities: Cádiz, Málaga (Spain), and Coimbra (Portugal), in collaboration with MICOS (Mediterranean International Center Of Studies) from 2018 to 2021. Only in the year 2020, due to Covid reasons, no excavation took place. Currently, the universities of Cádiz and Málaga (Spain) have left the project, and other universities such as the University of Perugia, as well as various local institutions, have joined.

The fundamental objective of this project is to provide novice archaeologists with the opportunity to gain experience in the field. Likewise, it is a great opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures developed in the Sicilian context
