Project Description:

The field school excavations focus on the roman harbor quarter of Vada Volaterrana, built in the Augustan age and abandoned during the seventh century. During their three weeks at the Summer School, students will experience all the different activities of an archaeologist. Practical, hands-on experience in the field will be complemented by laboratory activities and lectures with a strong focus on the history and archaeology of the harbor of Vada Volaterrana and its surroundings.

Tuition: € 2150. Tuition covers full cost of instruction, room & board and transportation from accomodation to site and back.

Room and Board Arrangements:
Participants will share rooms with private bathroom (3/4 people per room) in an agritourism, located in the countryside of the town of Rosignano Solvay (municipality of Rosignano Marittimo, Leghorn), close to the railway station, the city center and the beach. The food will be provided by a local restaurant specialized in Italian cuisine. The breakfast, consisting of coffee or cappuccino and pastries, will be consumed at the accommodation, while for lunch, students and staff will be provided with lunch-boxes on the excavation. Dinner, consisting of typical Italian courses, will be held at the restaurant.
