The State Museum of Pennsylvania, based in Harrisburg, PA, will be hosting Learn at Lunchtime, a Q&A with Dr. Bernard Means and Janet Johnson. This event will give participants the opportunity to hear more about recent excavations and view the museum’s collection. Learn at Lunchtime will be held in October 4.
In Springfield, OH, the Nearby Archaeology project at Wittenberg University will be hosting an event on campus. The ongoing excavation of a 19th Century building will be open to the public.
Sunday October 27 will mark the 12th annual archaeology day at the Bosque Museum. The museum, located in Clifton, TX will be focusing on the county’s Native American heritage this year, with artifact identification and flint knapping demonstrations, as well as kids activities.
In a joint effort, the Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist, the University of Iowa, and the Iowa Archaeology Society will be coming together for two events. On October 14, there will be a lecture from Dr. John C. Whittaker. And on International Archaeology Day, there will be a full day of archaeological celebration with museum tours, the Iowa Archaeology Society fall meeting and open lab hours from 9-4:30 at the Iowa University Museum of Natural History.
There will be another collaboration when the Louisiana Archaeological Society and the Louisiana State University Rural Life Museum host the South Central Historical Archaeology Conference from October 4-6. The 15th annual meeting of the SCHAC will be held at the Louisiana State University Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge, LA.
As part of International Archaeology Day the State Archaeologist of Michigan will be hosting Michigan State Archaeology Day on October 12th. The event, which will be held at the Michigan Historical Center in Lansing, MI, will include lecturers, demonstrations, special exhibits, hands-on activities.
