International Archaeology Day Continues to Grow


Eleven new organizations have been added to the ever growing list of International Archaeology Day collaborators!

The northeast sees the addition of the Program in Archaeology at the College of Wooster, which will host a display of artifacts from around the world, and the Peabody Museum, which will be presenting a lecture by archaeologist Stephen Houston on Maya iconography.

In Texas, the Plano Conservancy and the Kaufman Historical Society will both be hosting childrens programs featuring the archaeology of Texas through hands-on activities.

On the west coast, Statistical Research, Inc. in California will be hosting an Archaeology Fair featuring tours of an archaeological lab, artifact displays, and the opportunity to talk to professional archaeologists. The Southern Nevada Agency Partnership Cultural Resource Team, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, will be hosting presentations on the archaeology of the southwestern United States. The Archaeological Research Lab at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee will also be hosting a celebration of International Archaeology Day, in conjunction with the AIA Milwaukee Society.

Internationally, the Bodo Archaeological Society in Alberta, Canada will be presenting the lecture “Changing Climates, Human Compromises: the Case of the Neutral Hills and Mild Winters in Alberta’s Fur Trade Era:1832-34” by historian George Colpitts. The Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador will be presenting two archaeological lectures to be announced.

The National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program and the American Schools of Oriental Research have also signed on to promote International Archaeology Day and archaeological awareness.
