The Archaeological Society of Malta is now part of International Archaeology Day! On October 16 they will be hosting a lecture by Dr Timmy Gambin. He will speak on “Four decades later revisiting Honor Frost’s excavation at Mellieha Bay, Malta.” Later in the month, on October 26 there will be a site visit to the archaeological remains in the Mellieha and Selmun areas of Malta.
The Virginia based Fairfield Foundation has just signed on as a collaborating organization. On October 19th, they will be hosting a public archaeology excavation at Warner Hall, in Gloucester County, VA. This exciting bit of interactive excavation will coincide with the re-enactment of the Battle of the Hook, a Revolutionary War battle that occurred in the area. The excavation will celebrate the area’s local history while giving volunteers an opportunity to get their hands dirty.
Today’s other new collaborating organization, the New England Antiquities Research Association, will hold a conference “Shedding New Light on Old Cultures.” It will be held from October 25-27. Dr. Lucianne Lavinwill be the keynote speaker, along with many others, including experts in GIS and other new technologies now utilized in archaeology.
