The Azaad Graphic Institute in Iran held an Archaeology for Kids workshop on International Archaeology Day with about 20 people in attendance. This one-day workshop was for 8-10 year old children. They talked about general knowledge of Archaeology and its importance for life, archaeologists and their work, human evolution, technology development throughout the history; and lastly what is cultural heritage, why it is important, and why it should be protected. The children then tried to paint like cave people with their fingers, and as technology “improved” they made handmade pottery and painted it. As “archaeologists” they went for a survey on a mini excavation in an archaeological site, and recorded evidence of humans at an empty building. Through these activities, the Azaad Graphic Institute worked to teach participating children how to collaborate as a group, adapt to environmental conditions, and make deeper and more precise observations.
