Project Description:

The Trasimeno Regional Archaeological Project (TRAP) is an ongoing research program and field school based in Castiglione del Lago, Umbria, Italy. The project was established in 2015 with the goal of documenting the known archaeological sites in the territory of Castiglione del Lago and conducting excavations at select sites in order to better understand the transition from the Etruscan to Roman periods of occupation. To date, the teams has excavated at two Roman villa sites and at a kiln site. In 2025, the team will return to the Roman complex on the south slope of the town of Castiglione del Lago, a site that overlooks Lago Trasimeno. In 2025, we will also be opening a new archaeological museum within the Medieval center of Castiglione del Lago. Undergraduates participating in the program have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of archaeological field work.
