Project Description:

Ḥorvat Tefen (Galilee, Israel) is located on a prominent hilltop overlooking Naḥal Beth Ha‘Emeq, a meandering creek that flows westwards to the ‘Akko coastal plain.

Previous surveys at the site yielded coins and pottery sherds dating from the late 2nd – early 1st centuries BCE. The location of the site and the solid walls and towers surrounding it indicate a defensive, and probably military, site.

Our project’s goal is to shed new light on the fall of the Seleucids and the Hasmonean takeover of the Galilee.
