The Corning Museum of Glass sponsors the Rakow Grant for Glass Research, which makes available one or more annual awards totaling up to $25,000.
The Rakow Grant for Glass Research fosters scholarly research in the history of glass and glassmaking. Disciplines intersecting with glass research may include (and are not limited to) archaeology and anthropology, art history, conservation, and the history of science and technology. Priority will be given to projects that focus on historically understudied or underrepresented time periods, geographic areas, cultures, or otherwise lesser-known fields of glass history. Other factors that contribute to a successful application include: originality of research questions, clarity of methodology, feasibility of budget and its correlation to completion of project goals, impact of the research on advancing glass studies, and dissemination plan for scholarly findings. Preference will be given to projects that will be completed or significantly advanced with the funding available. Projects that are a portion of a larger program and have already received funding from others are less likely to receive the award.
