The AIA-St. Louis Society had beautiful weather and a steady crowd of members and the public at their International Archaeology Day celebration held at the Thomas Sappington House Museum site in October. At noon the audience enjoyed a “period” music performance as well as dramatic poetry and prose popular in 1810. The 250 attendees learned about broken china, glassware, animal bones, buttons as well as what nourished the soul in 1810. During the event, living historians also demonstrated how the colonial settlers made spoons from local wood and wove baskets.
