Dear AIA Members:
My name is John Papadopoulos and I am writing to you as the newly elected Chair of the Nominating Committee to invite your help in identifying potential candidates for open positions on the Archaeological Institute of America Governing Board. Other members of the AIA Nominating Committee are Deborah Arnold, Thomas Carpenter, Eric Cline, Julie Herzig Desnick, and J. Theodore Peña.
The Nominating Committee is collecting names of potential candidates for the following open positions, with terms starting in January 2022:
I invite you to suggest people you think would serve the AIA Governing Board well. All candidates to the Governing Board must be AIA members at the time their nomination is presented to the Council, and nominees for the Society Trustee position must have been AIA members for two consecutive years to be qualified. For more information regarding the specific qualifications of each type of Governing Board member, please refer to Articles IV and VI in the AIA Regulations. The ideal member is deeply interested in and informed about archaeology, willing and available to participate in governance, and has a commitment to the fundraising needs of the institution. As Chair, I am also particularly interested in individuals that can bring new, diverse voices and fresh perspectives to AIA governance. I should add that this includes yourself if you think you would like to serve the AIA at this level.
Please send suggestions to me at jkp@humnet.ucla.edu and Samantha Austin at saustin@archaeological.org before Thursday, April 1, 2021. With your nomination, please provide the nominee’s email address and a few sentences explaining why you think that person might be a good AIA Governing Board member. The Nominating Committee will consider all suggestions, but our role is to vet and select the requisite candidates for the ballot. If you speak to a potential candidate, please make it clear that your inquiry is informal, and does not guarantee a spot on the ballot or election to the position, but do ascertain that they are willing to serve.
Thank you for your help with this process.
Sincerely,
John Papadopoulos
Chair, AIA Nominating Committee
