Happy Pride Month! Let’s celebrate the incredible contributions and talents of LGBTQ+ individuals and work towards achieving equal justice and equal opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community. To honor Pride Month, we’re shining a spotlight on some fantastic resources and recommendations to learn more, advocate, and participate in the vibrant queer archaeology movement:
Queer Archaeology Resource Guide:
The Queer Archaeology website provides a wide range of resources for queer archaeologists and allies to explore, including a beginner’s guide, an extensive bibliography, and relevant articles and case studies. They also provide educational resources to guide instructors on approaching the subjects of gender, sexuality, and queerness in the classroom. Queer Archaeology maintains a website and blog (queerarchaeology.com) as well as two major social media accounts (LGBT Archaeologists on Facebook and @Queerarch on Twitter). Check them out!
Society for American Archaeology (SAA) Interest Groups:
SAA interest groups “offer SAA members the opportunity to exchange information and ideas on specific topics.” The Queer Archaeology Interest Group “is a formal network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex, asexual, gender non-binary, gender nonconforming, and other (LGBTQ2SIA+) archaeologists and allies to discuss research on sexualities and queer theory, as well as issues of gender presentation/identity, collegial/work relationships and pedagogical concerns of LGBTQ2SIA+ students.” Learn more HERE.
