Sarnath (Lat.25022’ N , Log.8300’ E) is located on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway, at a distance of about 10 kms Towards north-east from Varanasi Railway station and is only 23 kms away from LalBahadur Shastri Air Port, Babatpur, Varanasi. Sarnath Circle, the 27th Circle of Archaeological Survey of India was established on 2 September 2013 (vide no. 4-2/2013-Plg) by joining together some parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh of Patna Circle and some of Lucknow Circle. Total 142 monuments are under the control of this circle which falls in many districts of the eastern Uttar Pradesh. The districts are Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Ballia, Chandauli, Deoria, Faizabad, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Mahrajganj (Previously in Gorakhpur Distt.), Jaunpur, Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Mau, Mirzapur, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Sonbhadra, Sant Kabeer Nager, Sultanpur, Varanasi.

Lal Mahal Palace – Tipu Sultan's Palace

Tipu’s Palace, also known as the Lal Mahal, is situated in Srirangapatna near the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. This double storey ornate palace was built in 1791 and was used by Tipu Sultan as his summer retreat. After the death of Tipu Sultan, British used this palace as a secretariat till 1867. A short distance from Water Gate was the Lal Mahal, one of Tipu’s palaces. The British desccribed this palace as "very handsome". It had a regal audience hall or the durbar hall with three rows of magnificient pillars supporting a roof two stories above, a library and zenana. The palace also had sophisticated underground piping. It is said that Tipu had chained four tigers near its entrance. Col Wellesley destroyed lal mahal after the seige of Srirangapattana. The palace was called ‘Lal Mahal Palace’ which was demolished now and only ruins were left now. It is believed that from this Tipu’s Palace, there is a secret way which leads to another Tipu’s Mahal in Sakleshpur.

These days ‘Sound and Light’ shows have become a very popular means of showcasing history. This is not so just in our country but all over the world too. The first such show ‘Son et Lumiere’ (French for Sound and Light) was established at the Chateau de Chambord in France in the year 1952. The invention of this concept is credited to Paul Robert-Houdin who was the then curator of that monument. The second such show was established in the year 1962 at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Masjid-i-Jehan-Numa, commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. Its builder is the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, between 1644 and 1656, and inaugurated by its first Imam, Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari. Situated in the Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad (today Old Delhi), it served as the imperial mosque of the Mughal emperors until the demise of the empire in 1857. The Jama Masjid was regarded as a symbolic gesture of Islamic power across India, well into the colonial era. It was also a site of political significance during several key periods of British rule. It remains in active use, and is one of Delhi's most iconic sites, closely identified with the ethos of Old Delhi.
