The Delaware Department of Transportation’s site on US Route 301 celebrated National Archaeology Day with open site visits to the ongoing dig at the Armstrong Rogers Site. The families who visited the site trotted through the mud and had a wonderful time. Group discussions focused on the scientific method and proving a hypothesis as it pertains to the science of archaeology – a wonderful opportunity to explain the difference between paleontology and archaeology. The kids and parents screened and had an opportunity to talk to the different crew members. They were on site for about 1.5 hours and had a great time. In addition to this group, a high school student and her mother spent about 4 hours at the site screening and talking to everyone.
