The Museum of the Coastal Bend is hosting “Discover the Past,” a day of hands-on programming, to celebrate International Archaeology Day. The event takes place on Saturday, October 18th, 10am-4pm, at the museum (2200 East Red River, Victoria, TX 77901).
Visitors can check out their working archaeology lab between 10am-2pm; make a pot shard puzzle; and learn about conservation with a simple chemistry experiment.
MCB is home to 13,000 years of Texas heritage, including stone tools from the earliest Texas residents, supplies from the French colony at Fort St. Louis, and artifacts from the Spanish presidio built on top of the French fort. The centerpiece of the museum is a collection of seven iron cannons from La Salle’s 1685 expedition to Texas, which were lost underground for more than 300 years before being discovered.
