John L. Caskey was professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Cincinnati, director of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens from 1949 to 1959, AIA Gold Medal Recipient, and field director of several excavations in Greece and Turkey.

The Caskey Lectureship was established in 1998. The Caskey Lecture is awarded to one Local Society annually.
