The Barbara Tsakirgis Memorial Lecture

On the Classics faculty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN for 34 years, Barbara Tsakirgis served the profession throughout her life, making substantial contributions as both a leading scholar of Greek art and archaeology, and a long-time member of the Archaeological Institute of America.

Barbara was an officer of the AIA-Nashville Society and a lecturer for the Lecture Program for over 20 years, awarded the Joukowsky Lectureship in 2008-2009; a leader of AIA Tours to the Mediterranean and Middle East; and a member of the AIA Governing Board and numerous major committees.  Barbara’s lifetime of service to the AIA was recognized in 2017, when she received the Martha and Artemis Joukowsky Distinguished Service Award.  This lecture to honor her memory has been endowed by her colleagues, family, and friends.

The Tsakirgis Lecturer is chosen each year by the AIA Lecture Program Committee.
