Parkin Archeological State Park celebrated National Archeology Day by offering a primitive pottery workshop. The park interpreters dug local clay and processed it prior to the event, and also burned mussel shell for temper. The participants received a presentation on American Indian Pottery and learned about the steps taken to prepare the clay. The participants then spent the rest of the day creating coil pots with inspiration from the many vessels at the museum as well as from books that were available focused on pottery from the ancient Southeast. The pots will be fired at a later date.
