Amelia International Conservation Studies 2025
AICS offers a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of archaeological ceramics. This hands-on course provides a comprehensive understanding of the analysis, documentation, and restoration of these invaluable artifacts.
Guided by a team of professional archaeologists specializing in Roman ceramics, and restorers, all graduates of the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro, the restoration school in Rome, with a specialization in ceramics restoration and conservation.
The lectures provide a comprehensive understanding of traditional ceramic technology, tracing its development from its inception to the 19th Century.
They work on archaeological materials borrowed from the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Roma and the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio dell’Umbria.

Minimum Length of Stay for Volunteers: 4 weeks

Experience Required: No prerequisites required. The program at Amelia International Conservation Studies continues to welcome students from different backgrounds and with varying experience levels. The application process is designed to assess your experience and interests. It is uncommon for a student to apply and not be suitable for the program. However, in the event of a high number of applications, some students may be placed on a waiting list. To secure your spot, it is crucial to submit the application fee and program deposit promptly. If, for any reason, your application is not accepted, all fees will be refunded according to the refund policy.
Room and Board Arrangements:
Please note that our program does not offer meal services. Instead, all participants are responsible for cooking their own meals or exploring the local dining options at restaurants in Amelia.
As a participant in our program, you will be issued an AICS card, which can be used to receive discounts at local restaurants. This will give you the opportunity to experience the local cuisine while also enjoying some savings.
