Project Description:

Eastern Wyoming College is offering a 6-Credit RPA Certified field school in conjunction with the Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society in eastern Wyoming. The field school runs Monday through Saturday 8AM to 5PM with an hour lunch, from June 23 to July 26, 2025. The course will provide instruction and experience in archaeological field and laboratory methods, within a multidisciplinary scientific framework. There will be specialized training in CRM and in various methodologies including Geophysics and modern dating techniques. The field school is located at an old mining town in the hills of the Hartville Uplift, and is the site of one of the earliest known red ochre mines in North America. Students will participate in research to understand the lifeways of the Paleoamericans who frequented the mine, and any symbolic importance and geopolitical dynamics that may have surrounded such a site.
