Project Description:

Monks Hall Archaeology Field School is led by highly experienced professional archaeologists, with decades of expertise collaborating with universities, community organizations, and commercial enterprises. Our program offers comprehensive, hands-on training in archaeological fieldwork. Our curriculum is carefully developed in partnership with universities and heritage organisations to ensure that students acquire the essential skills needed for a successful career in archaeology. In 2024, we provided training to students from leading universities, including UCL, Cambridge, York, Nottingham and Leicester.

Site is a medieval moated manor with many agricultural features to be excavated.
Core program is based on the BAJR skills passport.
Additionally we will have different visiting specialists each week and rotate students through workshops in small groups on the following:
Photogrammetry
Early careers advice
Medieval pottery
Animal bone
Environmental sampling
Ground penetrating radar
Aerial survey
RTI

Experience Required: None, but do let us know what experience you have so we can tailor your training.

Room and Board Arrangements:
Accommodation is 3 meals a day with onsite camping, toilets, showers etc. It's glamping standard and the reviews of the food were very good last year! We can also arrange self catering accommodation in local houses at special rates if preferred. If you have questions about room and board or access please email training@reclaimheritage.com and we will get back to you asap.

Academic Credit:
We are in the process of verifying academic credit with American colleges. If you would like to receive academic credit for this training please send us the contact details of your course administrator to training@reclaimheritage.com and we will discuss it with them. Regardless we will grade and sign off your level of core and additional skills in the BAJR skills passport which in the UK is a document all archaeologists in training are expected to complete. If you do not have one of these we will provide one and walk you through it.
