Project Description:
For nine seasons of excavations, the Colleges of SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick joined to investigate the Pine Lake site in Davenport, NY. Students work in the field five days a week, learning basic excavation methods, mapping, and field recording techniques. Students also conduct laboratory analysis, learning procedures necessary for processing and preserving the materials they recover.
The aims of the course were to promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for Native American cultural traditions and enable students to put textbook knowledge of archaeological procedures into actual practice.
