History of Manatee Flows From this Spring

On National Archaeology Day, over 100 people joined Reflections of Manatee to celebrate the opening of a new interpretive walkway at the Manatee Mineral Spring site. “The History of Manatee Flows from this Spring” honors all the groups of people who have used the Manatee Mineral Spring over the centuries. The signs explore different facets of the area’s history, including Native Americans, the maroons of Angola, Early Pioneers, The Third Seminole War, The Civil War, and much more, with details of the archaeological and historical research that bring the past into focus. Attendees were enthralled with talks by archaeologists, descendants, and professional re-enactors. And everyone shared in a pioneer picnic and traditional games.
