Achill Island, Ireland

The Achill Archaeological Field School (AAFS) is developing a detailed understanding of the archaeology and history of Slievemore, the largest mountain on Achill Island which dominates the western half of Achill Island in Ireland.

Blackfriary, Ireland

The Blackfriary Community Heritage and Archaeology Project (BCHAP), in the town of Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland, is the focal point of community based research and training excavations of the remains of this 13th century Dominican Friary. The excavations are bringing to light the friars and townspeople who lived, worked and were buried here and are helping the local community transform the site into a valued amenity for the town.

Cahal Pech, Belize

Cahal Pech was founded in the Early Middle Preclassic period and continued to thrive as a Maya city until at least the end of the Classic period, though there is ceramic evidence of a longer occupation. Recent excavations have suggested that Cahal Pech, which was most likely settled by Maya from Guatemala, is one of the earliest Maya settlements in Belize.

Ferrycarrig, Ireland

Digging the Lost Town of Carrig, an archaeological research project launched by the Irish Archaeology Field School (IAFS) and Irish National Heritage Park (INHP) in the townland of Newtown, Ferrycarrig, Wexford, explores one of the most historically significant sites in Ireland, the Ferrycarrig Ringwork.

Jodensavanne, Suriname

Jodensavanne (Jew’s Savannah) was a virtually autonomous settlement established by Sephardic Jews fleeing from the Inquisition in the 1660s. It was a formal agricultural community in Suriname that used slaves to maintain sugarcane plantations. Located in Para, about 50 km south from the capital Paramaribo, it is positioned along the right bank of the Suriname river. Due to economic decline, the community relocated to the capital.

Pompeii, Italy

The Venus Pompeiana Project (VPP) is a collaboration between the University of Missouri-Columbia and Mount Allison University, under the auspices of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, to resume study of the Sanctuary of Venus at Pompeii.
