The Kansas Anthropological Association and Kansas Historical Society celebrated International Archaeology Day with a three-day field event at the Kaw Indian Mission State Historic Site in Council Grove, Kansas. Fifty volunteers with professional supervision conducted systematic metal detection survey and test excavations of two features at this early 1850s site. Artifacts and data were recovered that reflect the various uses of the land over time and will be used in interpretation of the mission for the public.
