The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology of the University of California, Los Angeles announces the Inaugural Triennial International Competition for The Lloyd Cotsen Prize for Lifetime Achievement in World Archaeology: U.S. $50,000.00
Established by Mr. Lloyd Cotsen as a permanent endowment at UCLA, this prize will be awarded every three years to an active senior archaeologist for lifetime achievement in archaeological research and mentorship. The prize includes an unrestricted cash award of U.S. $40,000 to the senior laureate and U.S. $10,000 to one of his or her former Ph.D. students who is currently engaged in full-time research and teaching in archaeology.
The Cotsen Prize is intended to recognize great scholarship and mentoring in the field of archaeology. The prize is open to all professional archaeologists from any country irrespective of nationality, race, creed, or ideology. All individual scholars or established research institutions are eligible to nominate a candidate for this prize.
Nominators should provide an approximate 1000-1500 word description of the senior nominee’s contributions to archaeological research and mentorship. The nomination must be accompanied by letters of support. There is no limit to how many letters can be included, but this should be a reasonable amount sufficient to convey the significance of the nominee’s achievements in research and mentorship. Nominators must provide at least one mentee of the senior nominee for consideration for the junior award. The work of the mentees must be described in 1000 words or less, for each nominated mentee. Nominators should maintain confidentiality.
People holding any kind of academic appointment from UCLA now or in the last ten years are disqualified, as are members of the jury and their immediate family. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
