National Geographic is reporting on AIA First Vice-Present Jodi Magness’ excavations at Huqoq.


National Geographic is reporting on AIA First Vice-Present Jodi Magness’ excavations at Huqoq.  She believes that a mosaic discovered among the ruins of a Late Roman (fifth century) synagogue depicts the story of a legendary meeting between Alexander the Great and the Jewish high priest. Although this meeting likely never occurred, different versions of the story circulated in antiquity as the Jews sought to associate themselves with Alexander’s greatness.
