This week we opened our two trenches at Caraun Point and took a field trip to Achill Island’s northern coast.

On the last day of the 2018 excavation season, an event was organized in memory of the late Prof. Yannis Sakellarakis.
During the last week, we finished the excavation of the layer of lime plaster in Room 1, concluded work in some areas, and continued in others.
Our intern’s last week— interrupted by a freak weather event!–rounded out activities she had been undertaking.

Highlights of the week include a unique double door entrance leading to Corridor 23 and a fragment of a kylix (type of cup) in Room 46.

Having finished up work at Keem for the season, we have moved to a new site called Caraun Point.

We excavated a large group of conical cups and cooking pots in Room 1, while well-preserved pavement came to light in Room 38.

Our final week at Keem, we focused on resolving the building interior and finishing the drawing and recording.
Intern Maddy was busy in Birr this week with meetings across the country and many things to accomplish.
