Professor McGovern’s Lecture a Huge Success

AIA President Liz Bartman with Professor Patrick McGovern, Ph.D.

This year’s Annual Meeting Public Lecture, “Uncorking the Past: Ancient Ales, Wines, and Extreme Beverages,” was presented on Thursday, January 5  by Patrick McGovern, Ph.D. Scientific Director, Biomolecular Archaeology Laboratory University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. This archeologist has swirled and sniffed 3,000-year-old millet wine, stood knee deep in a Portuguese lagar filled with skins and juice, and poked around skeleton-filled tombs in remote parts of the world.

The Opening Night Reception which followed was hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. It was the site of a private, after-hours viewing of this world-class Museum, where members of the AIA and APA enjoyed a glass of fine wine and/or a special brew in the Chinese rotunda, Egyptian room, or one of the many galleries that was open exclusively for the AIA and APA. Thank you all for coming!
