In the face of the recent destruction and looting of Iraq’s archaeological sites, museums and libraries, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has announced an initiative aimed at the preservation and documentation of “cultural resources in Iraq’s archives, libraries, and museums. Projects can also disseminate information relating to the materials and bibliographic records of civilization in Iraq from the earliest times to the present. Projects should focus on resources, which, because of their intellectual content and value as cultural artifacts, are considered highly important for research, education, and public programming in the humanities.” Grants ranging from $30,000 to $100,000 will be awarded to eligible institutions for projects lasting up to two years.
