A chapter about the AIA Site Preservation Program entitled, “Sustainable Site Preservation: AIA and the Future of Saving the Past,” was included in Archaeoogy in Society and Daily Life: Challenges and Co-operation in the 21st Century published by the Pirkanmaa Provincial Museum in Finland last month. Written by AIA Director of Programs Ben Thomas and Senior Programs Coordinator Meredith Langlitz, the chapter discusses the AIA’s approach to site preservation which empowers local communities thorugh outreach, education, economic development, and community engagement. The chapter was first presented as a paper at the 18th annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists in 2012 in Helsinki, Finland.
