The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Section of Archaeology signed on as a Collaborating Organization today and will celebrate National Archaeology Day with several events throughout the month of October and into early November.
During September and October they will be conducting an excavation open to the public at a French and Indian War fort named Fort Hunter in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The excavations will culmiante in the Pennsylvania Indians Festival on October 7.
On October 21, they will be doing public outreach and making a dugout canoe using traditional methods at the Cabela’s Store in Hamburg, Pennsylvania.
On October 31, National Archaeology Day will be celebrated in the Pennsylvania capitol in Harrisburg in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Archaeology Council and the Society for Pennsylvania. There the three groups will display artifacts and create interactive demonstrations.
On November 3, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Archaeology Section will wrap up its series of National Archaeology Day events with its Annual Workshop in Archaeology. This event, held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, will feature guest speakesr lecturing on a variety of Pennsylvania archaeology topics.
