The Minnesota Society of the Archaeological Institute of America celebrated International Archaeology Day early with a poster session featuring the archaeological work of 13 undergraduate and graduate students from four Minnesota colleges (St. Olaf) and universities (Minnesota, St. Thomas, Macalester). The posters included sites in Croatia, Turkey, Minnesota and Central Asia and covered recent archaeological fieldwork as well as ongoing research projects on archaeological remains and antiquities in a local collection.
This third annual student poster event was held in cooperation with the University of St. Thomas Art History Department’s Graduate Student Research Symposium. Student posters were on display during the Friday night keynote address by Jason Felch (co-author of Chasing Aphrodite) and we held a poster presentation and reception that allowed social time and informal discussion. The poster session brought together students and professionals from different institutions, as well as AIA-MN members, some parents and the public at large. Thanks to the Outreach Grant, we were able to reimburse students for the costs of poster printing and serve refreshments at this event, which encouraged mingling and conversation. By coordinating with St Thomas’s Graduate Student Research Symposium, we had a much wider audience than in previous years.
