Project Director Jeff Royal lectures on the astounding discovery made by nautical archaeologists on the sea floor west of Sicily: the debris field from a decisive naval battle fought between Rome and Carthage for control of Sicily in 241 BCE. Cargo, armor and warship rams are among the spectacular artifacts that testify to this pitched battle for naval supremacy. This discovery is highlighted in the Jan./Feb. issue of Archaeology.
