For-profit salvage groups and underwater treasure hunting corporations, says Jerome Lynne Hall, have succeeded in manipulating public opinion with several clever and closely woven deceptions regarding underwater cultural heritage. Hall, a professor of anthropology at the University of San Diego and a past president of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M University, says it its time to call a spade a spade.
