The University of Puget Sound held its inaugural Redford Conference in Archaeology in conjunction with National Archaeology Day. Over 80 people attended a presentation by Dr. Norbert Zimmerman on “Scanning the Invisible” describing his recent experience creating 3D scans of the catacombs of Domatilla in Rome. Over the next two days, scholars from all over the United States as well as three foreign countries discussed the ways in which archaeologists are using new technologies as well as some of the challenges we face in putting this technology to best use.
